Home Staging Tips
Selling a home is a lot of work, but can also be a lot of fun and a great experience. Your home is your castle, it’s perfect. You love the pictures, knick knacks, the collection of shot glasses from your favorite cities you’ve visited. However to a prospective buyer, it could look like a lot of junk and make the house look small. De-cluttering and staging your home is a great way for it to really shine! Let people see those beautiful bookcases behind the books, see the windows and features it has to offer. Professional Stagers are a great resource, but why not try on your own? Even if you’re not planning on selling anytime soon, it’s always good to once a year de-clutter and take another look at your home.
We cannot mention this enough. Having cleared off surfaces on book shelves, tables, counter tops and other surface areas really allows a buyer to see how much space there is for their items. You want to create an area where they can “see” their personal belongings.
Remove Personal Photos
Take down personal photos. Your home is being photographed for the internet and you may not want your trip to Mexico all over Zillow. If you take down photos from the wall, hang a neutral looking painting or patch and paint over the nail hole.
Gold is out. Period. Go through your home and replace door knobs and hinges with brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze fixtures.
You may love the purple bedroom or the green bathroom, but buyers may not. Take those rooms and paint them a neutral color.
Let the Sun In
Open blinds and curtains. Let the natural light come in. Nothing makes a home look bigger and friendlier than letting the sunshine in.
Remove unnecessary furniture to make your living space look larger. Extra chairs in the living room; gone. 8 chairs at the dining room table; good by 4. Make your space look bigger by eliminating some of the things you don’t need.
Buyers love to know about storage space. Clean and organize your closets so they can show off their best features, too.
Clean Clean Clean
Clean the house well (windows too) or have it professionally cleaned prior to photographs and listing. We have the names of some great cleaning companies who specialize in Real Estate cleanings.
Add a friendly “Welcome” Mat and some brightly colored flowers. Remember, don’t clutter with too many pots.
Have the home professionally pressure washed, removes the years of dirt and grime from the home being in the elements.
These are just some of the many things we recommend to get your home show ready, or even organized for a family gathering! If you have more questions, let us know how we can help. We’d love to give you some one on one time helping you get your home in tip top shape!
