Each season brings about new homeowner projects that should be done in order to maintain a tip-top home. With the official start of summer less than two weeks away, we recommend focusing on these to-do items!
Wash the Deck
Use a deck brush or power washer plus a deck-cleaning solution (like Cabot Ready to Use wood cleaner pump spray, $12 a gallon, acehardware.com) to remove mold, dirt, and mildew. If the finish is worn, let the wood dry for a few days, then reseal it
Clean out the Gutters
Clean leaves and debris from your gutters. The next time it rains, stand outside and look for breaks or leaks in your gutters and downspouts.
Replace Grass with Seed or Sod
Before it gets scorching hot outside, now is the perfect time to lay sod or spread new grass seed. The key is keeping it watered!
Weed out the Flower Beds and Plant More
Clean out the weeds and till the dirt. Plant summer flowers such as Vinca that can withstand sun and heat. Add a new layer of topsoil and cover with about two inches of mulch to help keep moisture in and give a finished look.
Wash the Outdoor Patio Cushions
Most outdoor fabrics are safe to throw in a warm wash. Air-dry, then put the cover back on the insert while it’s still slightly damp to keep it smooth. If the fabric isn’t removable, clean it using a soft scrub brush, dish detergent, and warm water.
Scrub the Gas Grill
Scrub the outside with soap and water. Turn the heat up on the inside and use a scrub brush for the grill to wipe off any excess grilling material
Your house is sure to shine this summer with these items crossed off the list!
